17.09.2023 - Boy did I sleep well

I put my head down around 20:15 but I'm not sure when I fell asleep. In any case I must have been tired because I slept until 06:00 this morning. First I thought, because I had no mobile signal, my mobile was back on german time, but it wasn't. I had slept for almost 10 hours.
Maybe it had partly to do that I quietly made the decision to go back home, I'm not sure.

So, yes I rebooked my ferry for the 19th. This gives me plenty of time to drive through the Yorkshire Moores and Peak District, and on Tuesday I head via a scenic route to Harwich.

This morning was rather foggy and windy again; the visibility was down to about 30 meters. The visibility change quickly though once I had made my decent down to about 200 meters. Sadly the drizzle never really disappeared for most of the morning.

When I reached the Lake District it was quite busy and after a great drive over the A592 I left towards Whitby, a small seaside town on the west coast.
The drive their was very nice and the weather got better too! I even had to put my sunglasses on for a while. Wowsie

The Whitby Abbey was my main reason to go there and it's definitely worth a visit. I only looked at the outside of the ruin because you have to pay for the car park and entry.
So, I stood on my tiptoes to take a few sneaky pictures.

Whitby Abbey

From there I drove through the Yorkshire Moores, looking for a parkup for the night. After about 30 min I found one on a road between to cattle grids.
I'm not sure why, but you hardly find a nice car park on normal roads,. But as soon as you pass a cattle grid, ther’re a quite a few.
Though I'm not sure if that is everywhere in the UK like that, but I can speak for Scotland, the Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire Moores.
